Home inspections in these new times
With an effective date of 04/02/2020, the State of Maine issued a “Stay Healthy at Home Mandate” (https://www.maine.gov/governor/mills/news/governor-mills-issues-stay-healthy-home-mandate-2020-03-31). This mandate is generally directing all residents in Maine to remain at home. There are exceptions for businesses and operations that are designated as essential.
Similar to the real estate industry, Breakwater Inspection has been designated an “essential business” by the State of Maine and will continue to operate business.
We will however be following all the CDC guidelines for safe practices. These include:
• Being in good health, or otherwise postponing the inspection
• Practicing appropriate hand washing and sanitizing techniques
• Social distancing at all times (and social isolation when not working)
• Wearing gloves and disposable booties during the inspection and a mask when appropriate to do so
• Using disinfectant wipes to clean all tools and equipment prior to use, including any radon monitoring equipment that is left in a home
Without compromising the quality of the inspection and resulting work product, we request that the minimal number of people be at inspections. We are respectfully asking that the residents vacate the premises for the inspection. We would also like to ask the real estate agents to wait outside (the reasonable extent possible). If our clients feel that it is important to attend the inspection (which we normally encourage), we ask that they wait outside (as directed by the Maine DECD).
John has also completed the InterNACHI COVID-19 safety training.
We welcome any questions or inquiries, and hope everyone stays well.
